Smith Sawmill Service, which supplies parts and equipment for sawmills and other wood processing mills, has acquired Precision Saw Works in Polkton, North Carolina, expanding its East Coast coverage of mills in the forest products industry.

Smith Sawmill Service is dedicated to meeting the ever-changing needs of the wood industry. It provides services for sawmills, chip mills, pallet mills, paper mills, and plywood/OSB manufacturers.

Precision Saw Works, founded by Frank Curran in 1986, specializes in repair and manufacture of band and circle saws and has provided exemplary service to customers.

The addition will enhance Smith Sawmill Service’s footprint on the East Coast, and with its existing infrastructure, will allow the company to better serve customers, both current and new, in that region and beyond.

Smith Sawmill Service will use the Precision Saw Works facility and retain current management and employees to provide services for repairing and sharpening as well as the manufacture of circle saws, bandsaws, and custom sawmill parts. Frank Curran and his son, Travis, will continue to act as managers and help lead this location. The goal is to achieve a seamless integration of both companies with no service interruption.
“Our customers will continue to receive the same high quality products and service that they have come to expect,” said Paul Smith, president of Smith Sawmill Service.

Precision Saw Works is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Smith Sawmill Service and will be named Smith Sawmill Service-North Carolina.

Smith Sawmill Service, which also has locations in Texas and Louisiana, is an innovator of sawmill technology with multiple industry-related patents. It is continuously striving to increase the efficiency and productivity of the wood industry.

Paul and Debra Smith laid the foundation for the family owned, family oriented, Smith Sawmill Service in 1990, and they have been providing quality products and exemplary customer service for over 30 years. With the help of their son, Michael, and general manager Dustin Norris, the company has continued to grow and build on the legacy of Paul and Debra Smith.

The addition of an East Coast location was a natural next-step in the evolution of the company. Under the stewardship of Michael and Dustin, Smith Sawmill Service will continue to remain cutting-edge — never forgetting the past, but with an eye always on the future.
