NEWTON, New Hampshire — Continental Biomass Industries recently introduced its new Magnum Force 6400CT horizontal grinder at the company’s Factory Forum, a two-day event that included workshops and equipment demonstrations.
The CBI Magnum Force 6400CT is an extreme-duty track machine engineered for resilience and high production. Grinding applications include contaminated demolition debris, railroad ties, whole trees, pallets, storm debris, shingles, logs, mulch, logging slash, and stumps. It features a fully welded and line bored hog box for processing large amounts of tough material.
The CBI Magnum Force 6400CT features the revolutionary new ‘cassette style’ clam shell design that enables rotors to be completely swapped out faster than other grinders in its class. Customers can go from grinding to chipping in half the time as before and can accept jobs with various material demands. Four interchangeable rotors give this horizontal grinder the versatility needed to stay on top of changing markets.
The grinding chamber lifts, allowing full access to the rotor and hog box internals for ease of maintenance. Access to the outer face of the outside hammers is now as simple as opening the hog box; the upper profile change of the box leaves the hammer fully exposed for maintenance at the ‘crotch’ of where the top feed roll arm rests. The service area has been expanded to provide an open, safe, and ergonomic work environment for service technicians.
The CBI Magnum Force 6400CT is powered by either a Cat C27 1,050 hp engine or a Cat C32 1,200 hp engine. It features Parker IQAN controls and can be operated via remote control. A new, improved user interface allows operators to adjust and save multiple groups of feed speeds, pressures, and automated control systems to guarantee the most efficient performance across a wide range of materials.
The design of the offset helix rotor minimizes energy loss from each strike and distributes material evenly across the rotor. Speed sensors have been added to the feed system for a more continuous and efficient pace of grinding, especially when using CBI IntelliGrind.
The hydraulic system features several improvements. The hydraulic filter rack is strategically located to be fully accessible at ground level with a sloped design to help eliminate debris. Valve decks have stainless steel guarding for protection when tracking through overgrown areas. The hydraulic tank is located higher on the unit with larger capacity to improve efficiency.
The CBI Metal Detection System engages within milliseconds whenever the grinder’s rotor makes contact with tramp metal and is precise enough to detect a bag of bolts. The MDS will automatically reduce engine RPM, raise the top feed roller, and reverse the infeed to allow the operator to find the tramp metal. The rotor is monitored by an adjustable electronic sensor to alert the control system when tramp metal is detected.
The Terex Telematics System or T-Link is now standard on CBI grinders. T-Link allows owners to remotely monitor detailed reports of operating data, machine status, alarms, and other key metrics. The system has a customizable online dashboard that displays a full range of data and can be configured to send email and text notifications when certain events occur. Support 24/7 by a dashboard of updated reports, technical phone assistance, and CBI’s field service engineers will keep the machine operating at top performance.
