Fecon Adds Remote Monitoring for FTX440
Fecon now offers remote connectivity for its FTX440 crawler forestry mulchers. Remote connectivity allows systems information to be viewed from almost anywhere.
Fecon’s remote connectivity is designed for monitoring real-time performance. It also helps reduce troubleshooting time and costs.
This feature utilizes a SIM card and antenna; both transmit two-way-data over GS cellular networks to the machine’s IQAN controller. Miscommunication and unnecessary service trips can be minimized by reviewing machine data.
Testing and data collection can also be done without being on-site. Program updates can be uploaded to the machine without a service trip, too.
The Fecon FTX440 remote connectivity can be programmed to automatically transmit maintenance reports, system alerts and other machine parameters for life cycle monitoring.
Fecon manufactures FTX track carriers, Bull Hog® mulching attachments and other attachments, such as tree shears, grapples and stump grinders. West Salem Introduces 4400 Hammermill Series
West Salem Machinery has introduced a new hammermill for applications that require a large, heavy machine for high volume, fine grind applications. The hammermills are equipped with WSM’s nearly full circle sizing screens to maximize production in fine grind applications, delivering higher capacities and consistent product sizing.
The WSM 4400 series hammermills feature a 44-inch diameter rotor with a throat width from 20-60 inches and drive systems up to 600 hp. They are built mill-duty with ‘easy glide’ maintenance access doors, a wide base design for improved throughput, and multiple refiner plates for superior grinding action.
The new series of hammermills is suited for such applications as agricultural fiber, wood flour, potting mixtures, animal bedding, mulch, fiberboard, animal feed, ethanol, feedstock and wood fiber for pellet manufacturing.
Another application is to increase densification of wood shavings. The WSM 4400 series hammermill can increase bulk density of shavings by 50%-100%, which reduces the number of truck-loads needed to handle the same volume of shavings.

Tigercat Introduces New
Six-Wheel DriveSkidders
Tigercat has introduced the 635 series of six-wheel drive skidders. The company recently demonstrated the new 635D at DEMO 2008 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Six-wheel drive skidders have a number of advantages over four-wheel drive machines, according to Tigercat, including superior weight distribution, lower ground pressure, greater load capacity, better performance in soft ground and steep slopes and a smoother ride.
The Tigercat 635D is powered by a Cummins 260 hp Tier III engine. Improvements to the hydrostatic drive line improve performance and fuel economy.
A Flexxaire variable-reversible pitch radiator fan automatically matches the fan blade pitch to cooling requirements for increased energy efficiency. The Tigercat 635D also features rotating seat with a two-position mechanical lock for full rear-facing drive capability, joystick steering for improved ergonomics, drive pedals at both the front and rear of the cab, and the next generation IQAN control system.

Cresswood Develops New Compact End-Feed Grinder
Cresswood Shredding Machinery has developed a new, compact, horizontal end-feed grinder.
The new EF-12SR is the smallest end-feed grinder in Cresswood’s Destroyer series and takes considerably less floor space than other models. The width has been reduced 39% to 35 inches. In addition, the redesigned motor mount location and low-profile frame and guards create a symmetrical, streamlined layout.
The Cresswood EF-12SR is available with a 25 hp or 30 hp motor. It features a grinding head that is 12 inches long and 10 inches in diameter, operating at 300-600 rpm. The machine is designed to allow easy servicing and preventive maintenance.
In small wood industry shops, the Cresswood EF-12SR can be integrated seamlessly behind gang ripsaws, bandsaws and other machines. By standing in close proximity to the waste stream the grinder eliminates the need for an extra chute or conveyor to receive rippings and small blocks.
With its low profile, the Cresswood EF-12SR can be positioned to the left or right of a saw, depending on the play layout. The straight, inline design and standard 10-foot vibrating conveyor save on labor and equipment costs and enable shops to make the most use of limited space.

Bandit Industries has developed a new self-propelled stump grinder, the Model 2000XP.
The new Bandit stump grinder comes standard with a Kohler 27 hp engine.
It is available with three steering axles — three-wheel manual, three-wheel hydraulic and four-wheeled hydraulic – and features a tight turning radius.
The Bandit 2000XP stump grinder features a 20-inch diameter cutter wheel with 18 GREENTEETH® for smooth, efficient cutting.
Dual hydraulic drive motors increase torque, which allows the 2000XP to traverse uneven terrain easily.
A narrow 29-inch-wide four-wheel frame is available as an option.

- Wine Sales Becomes Pallet Machinery Group
- Wine Sales, which sells machinery to the pallet and sawmill industries, has changed its name to Pallet Machinery Group.
Greg Wine, owner of the company, cited several reasons for the name change. His business already was operating a Web site at www.palletmachinery.com, he noted.
In addition, the company represents several manufacturers of machinery and equipment: Storti, which makes nailing machines and scragg mill equipment; West Plains Resaw Systems, which makes equipment for sawmills and pallet manufacturing; and AIT, which has manufactured stackers and notchers with the G. Wine Sales name plate. Greg’s company also has sold businesses and sells used machinery. His business has grown, Greg also noted.
Pallet Machinery Group has offices in Virginia and Florida.
Greg did business as G. Wine Sales since 1995 and has worked in the pallet industry for 25 years.
